DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z May 25, 2025

SMOKE:
Northern Plains/Central and Northeastern Canada…
Wildfires in east-central Saskatchewan and western Manitoba were producing
heavy smoke, seen moving northeast today, across Hudson Bay and northern
Quebec. A large fire in southeastern Manitoba was also producing heavy
smoke which was moving south into Minnesota and the Dakotas.

West Coast United States...
An area of light smoke was observed drifting north from southern
California to Washington, continuing towards the larger area of light
smoke and heavy plumes being produced in central and northeast Canada.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico/Central America/Western Caribbean/Gulf Coast…
An area of light to moderate density smoke and aerosols covered most
of Mexico, spreading out into the Pacific, Gulf Coast, and western
Caribbean. Fires along Mexico’s west coast were producing medium to
heavy plumes moving to the east into Texas and across the Gulf Coast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
