DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1510Z May 27, 2025

SMOKE:
Central and Eastern Canada/Northern U.S. Plains/Atlantic Ocean...
A large and dense plume of smoke, associated with extensive wildfire
activity in east-central Saskatchewan and west-central Manitoba, expanded
significantly through the day. Thick density smoke extended across
of central Canada, including northern-central Saskatchewan, northern
Manitoba, western Ontario, southern Nunavut, parts of northern Ontario
and eastern half of Hudson Bay. The moderate density smoke engulf much
of the same regions while extending further south of Saskatchewan and
Manitoba. The overall large area of smoke extended across all of Central
Canada, in parts of Montana and North Dakota, and progressed eastward
across Ontario and Quebec, before finally ending in the Atlantic Ocean
off Nova Scotia.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central and Southern Mexico/Gulf of America/Southern Texas/Pacific
Ocean...
An area of light density smoke/aerosol attributed to widespread seasonal
fire activity, volcanic emissions, and industrial sources throughout
Central and Southern Mexico was observed today over the northern and
western Mexico. The combination continued to extend west into the Pacific
Ocean off the coast of southwestern Mexico and Central America. The
combination of smoke and aerosols extended northward along the eastern
coastline of Mexico and into southern Texas

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
